It was only a matter of time before the Blue-Grey Football staff made a stop on the nationwide Jersey Presentation Tour to formally recognize Anselem Umeh of St. John Bosco (CA).
Longtime NFL veteran Mark McMillian & Co. recently visited the 5-11 and 185-pound wide receiver from the Class of 2016 at his Southern California stomping grounds.
Umeh, as some already know, will line up for the North vs. South during the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium.
Worth noting, two other games take place: East vs. West on Dec. 20 at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium and Blue vs. Grey on Jan. 16 Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field.
“You’re talking about a kid who’s one of the country’s top players at his spot and Umeh has done that while playing for a perennial powerhouse team,” McMillian said.
Therein lies the key, perhaps: Umeh has been able to go out and get the job done at one of the premier programs on the entire prep circuit. That’s certainly no easy task.
Year in, and year out, St. John Bosco ranks among the best in the business. This season was no different as the Braves were consistently ranked among the nation’s Top 10.
As for Umeh, he’s been a big part of the success. No surprise considering he first opened eyes during February’s Blue-Grey Regional Combine in Southern California.
Umeh has been on the fast-track ever since, naturally. So much so, in fact, colleges from all over the country are interested, with an offer count approaching double digits.
Programs from the Pac-12 Conference remain in contact. Same thing can be said about schools from the ACC. Where he ends up playing at the next level is anyone’s guess.
One thing is certain: Umeh will first be uniform for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl and the public received a sneak peek during the brand’s recent Jersey Presentation Tour.
