Back in familiar surroundings, the NFL veteran coaching staff returned to Glendale (AZ) for the Blue-Grey All-American Combine (Desert Regional).
Once there, led by Mark McMillian, Byron Evans and Frank Sanders, naturally it was time for the one-time professionals to pass along their collective knowledge.
The beneficiaries, of course, were the prospects in attendance at the facility for the Arizona Cardinals. That said, here’s a closer look at some of the highlights.
D.J. King, QB, Mesa Ridge (CO): The 6-foot-2 and 190-pound junior did whatever was asked of him. He made all the throws and left a lasting impression.
Davon Jones, RB, La Joya Community (AZ): Good on the ground, or in the air, the 5-9 and 175-pound junior did plenty of things well in this type of environment.
Tre Hart, WR, Chandler (AZ): The 5-11 and 170-pound junior is a potential good fit for a team in the Big Sky Conference and the situation could soon materialize.
Jordan Stengel, WR, Notre Dame Prep (AZ): A Missouri Valley Football Conference target, the 6-3 and 185-pound junior appears to have a bright future ahead.
Ryan Langford, TE, O’Connor (AZ): The 6-3 and 217-pound junior was a big target, as his frame would suggest, and could not be stopped around the red zone.
Kobee Marion, DB, Corona del Sol (AZ): A Big Sky Conference target, with Northern Arizona at the top of the list, the 5-9 and 165-pound junior possesses upside.
Troy Ferestad, DB, Bisbee (AZ): The 6-1 and 175-pound junior was athletic as they come, and can play on the side of the ball, if need be. His name is one to remember.
Keith Wesley, LB, Higley (AZ): Colorado State and Boise State have contacted the 6-2 and 185-pound junior. There’s also been interest from the Pac-12 Conference.
Larry Davis, LB, Desert Vista (AZ): The 6-foot and 220-pound junior has kept the lines of communication open with Colorado State and UTEP, to name a few programs.
Andrew Blitzke, LB, Cesar Chavez (AZ): The 6-foot and 195-pound sophomore, on paper, seems to be a bit inexperienced. Washington thinks otherwise, however.
Jacob Fyffe, OL, Centennial (AZ): Somewhat surprisingly athletic with his kind of frame, the 6-3 and 280-pound junior turned plenty of heads on, and off, the field.
Declan Kyler, OL, Skyline (AZ): The 6-2 and 305-pound sophomore did particularly well along with fellow underclassman Carson Keltner from Centennial (AZ).
Brayden Smith, DL, Ironwood Edge (AZ): Montana, New Mexico and UNLV have the 6-5 and 270-pound junior on the radar. Arizona State and Colorado are in the mix.
Ryan Pollock, DL, Empire (AZ): The 6-3 and 210-pound junior was force to be reckon with down in the trenches, so was Trey Gustfason from Bradshaw Mountain (AZ).
Editor’s Note: Those who did well at this workout, in time, could be invited to one of the brand’s All-American Bowls held at NFL stadium and nationally broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks.
The games take place at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium, Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field or San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium.
Moving forward, the Blue-Grey Football Selection Committee will consider a number of different factors before making an all-important decision on invites to the All-American Bowl. Stay tuned.
