Blue-Grey All-American Combine: Eastern Regional Scouting Report (2017)
In our first visit to this part of the country in years, the hoopla was somewhat tempered for the Blue-Grey All-American Combine (Eastern Regional).
Expectations were met and largely exceeded, however, during the workout held at Total Turf, home of the Arena Football League’s Philadelphia Soul.
NFL veterans J’vonne Parker and Sameeh McDonald put together a well-rounded coaching staff, one that included Aaron Beasley and Raheem Orr.
The beneficiaries were the prospects in attendance who received instruction from the one-time professionals. Here’s a look at the best of the best.
Nick Patti, QB, St. Joseph Regional (NJ): A Pitt commit, the effort from the 6-3 and 205-pound junior secured a roster spot in the brand’s All-American Bowl.
Joseph Kellum, RB, Lenape (NJ): The 5-10 and 187-pound junior was back at the workout for the third time in two years and now boasts offers from Fordham and Bucknell
Zaheer Seabrooks, RB, Bethelhem Catholic (PA): The 5-9 and 191-pound sophomore did well, as did Quartius Byrd from Carteret (NJ) and Azhaun Dingle from Snyder (NJ).
Taj Harris, WR, Palmyra (NJ): On the official roster, the 6-2 and 175-pound junior, with multiple scholarships in place, missed the workout. Still, he remains on the brand’s radar.
Marcus Plummer, WR, Mainland Regional (NJ): Good along the sideline, underneath and downfield, the 6-foot and 165-pound junior made the most of his many opportunities.
Keith Parrish, DB, Bensalem (PA): The 5-10 and 165-pound junior was versatile and earned the respect of his peers. Same thing can be said about Jaiden Elliott from Newton (NJ).
Oleh Manzyk, LB, Neshaminy (PA): Sky’s the limit for the 6-1 and 207-pound sophomore who has varied levels of interest from schools such as Boston College, Duke and Virginia.
Preston Fausnaught, LB, Danville (PA): The 6-foot and 215-pound sophomore was as strong as anyone. Also, Josh Acevdeo from North Bergen (NJ) deserved some recognition.
Xavier Owens, LB, Lake Forest (DE): Focused and determined from start to finish, the 6-1 and 205-pound junior held his won, as did peer Teddy Lettonoff from Sussex (DE).
Elijah Wroten, OL, Germantown Academy (PA): The 6-4 and 297-pound sophomore just recently landed his first offer from Temple. Maryand is another team in the mix.
Jake Nicholls, OL, Fairfield (PA): Big and agile, the 6-4 and 301-pound junior was a force to be reckon with, same goes for Kenny Cockerill from Washington Township (NJ).
Joey Slackman, OL, Commack (NY): The 6-4 and 267-pound sophomore turned more than a few heads in the crowd and Harrison Hill from Allentown (NJ) is the same category.
Tyler Friday, DL, Don Bosco Prep (NJ): With more than 20 offers, Alabama and Ohio State among them, the 6-3 and 263-pound junior will play in the brand’s All-American Bowl.
Quadir Powell, DL, Burlington City (NJ): The 6-2 and 220-pound junior opened up eyes, with Joseph Wells from Bishop Eustace Prep (NJ) and Cameron Capone from Allentown (PA).
Editor’s Note: Those who did well at this workout, in time, could be invited to one of the brand’s All-American Bowls held at NFL stadium and nationally broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks.
The games take place at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium, Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field or San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium.
Moving forward, the Blue-Grey Football Selection Committee will consider a number of different factors before making an all-important decision on invites to the All-American Bowl. Stay tuned.
