Blue-Grey All-American Combine: Illinois Regional Scouting Report (2016)

Western Michigan commit Marcus Hayes was one of the top prospects in attendance at the recent Blue-Grey All-American Combine just outside Chicago (IL).

It had been a while since the brand’s last appearance at the training facility of the Chicago Bears, still it was just like old times during this past weekend’s long-awaited return to Bourbonnais (IL) for the Blue-Grey All-American Combine.

NFL veterans Mark McMillian, Arlen Harris and Nate Turner took time out of their busy schedules and served as mentors to the top prospects that the Midwest had to offer. Safe to say, everyone benefitted from the collective knowledge.

What follows is a closer look at multiple recruits from the Windy City, and surrounding states, who took advantage of the opportunity to learn from the one-time professional during the afternoon’s workout at Olivet Nazarene University.

Harlan Mitchell, QB, Dunlap (IL): The 6-foot-1 and 200-pound junior, with interest from Illinois State and Western Illinois, was not afraid of the big stage. He did well in the spotlight.

George Reis, QB, Urbandale (IA): On the official roster, unable to attend though, the 6-1 and 190-pound junior who’s been contacted by Big 10 Conference schools remains on the radar.

Bryce French, RB, Lutheran (IL): The 5-9 and 180-pound sophomore is just now starting to scratch the surface. Watch out, once an upperclassman, he could emerge as a national name.

Kyle Pressley, RB, Cary Grove (IL): Looks can be deceiving, so they say. Accordingly, 5-10 and 170-pound junior proved as much in this environment and opened up plenty of eyes.

Steven Fleming, WR, Lemont (IL): The 5-10 and 190-pound junior does possess a fair amount of upside. Now, with a continued focus, he could be destined to play at the next level.

Isaiah Hill, WR, Minooka (IL): Underneath or vertically, the spot on the field did not matter, the 5-11 and 175-pound junior caught just about everything thrown in his direction.

Juan Green, WR, Bloom (IL): The 5-10 and 150-pound sophomore often times played with the poise of a varsity veteran. Certainly not an a largely inexperienced underclassman.

Keshaun Story, WR, Centennial (MN): A week after teammates did well in a workout in their hometown, the 5-9 and 165-pound sophomore went out and duplicated the feat.

Marcus Hayes, DB, Lutheran (IL): The 5-11 and 187-pound junior was for, all intents and purposes, the marquee name in attendance. He’s also a Western Michigan commit.

Donovan Howard, DB, Barack Obama (WI): On paper, the 5-9 and 165-pound sophomore might not have measured up to his peers. On the field, however, he held his own.

Joshua Oglesby, DB, Nazareth Academy (IL): The 5-11 and 185-pound sophomore is just now starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Once a senior, sky’s the limit for him.

Zakary Wardlow, LB, Glenwood (IL): Perhaps a bit undersized for his position, by some standards, the 5-9 and 183-pound junior proved the naysayers wrong about his stature.

Caleb Jones, DL, Huntley (IL): The 6-2 and 225-pound junior seemingly could not be stopped off the edge during the one-on-ones. He gave opponents fits, from start to finish.

D’Angelo Dixon, DL, Chicago Military (IL): It’s only a mere matter of time before the 6-3 and 295-pound sophomore figures out how could he can be. His ceiling is high.

Larry Boyd, OL, Trinity Catholic (MO): The 6-5 and 330-pound junior has a scholarship count that’s near 20 nowadays and the interest has shown no signs of slowing down.

Jose Sanchez, OL, Proviso West (IL): More than just a big body, the 6-4 and 280-pound junior showed somewhat surprising athleticism over the course of the afternoon.
