Based on the success of last year’s debut, thanks largely to support from the community, the Blue-Grey All-American Combine (San Diego Regional) delivered a successful encore.
Joined by fellow former professional Na’il Diggs on the sidelines, NFL veteran Larry Ryans was back as lead instructor and had plenty of good things to say about those in attendance.
So, without further delay, it’s time to provide insight on the individuals who left a lasting impression on the powers that be, to be exact the brand’s coaching staff and team of scouts.
Carl Richardson, QB, Salinas (CA): The 6-foot-3 and 170-pound freshman displayed plenty of poise and did not have the jitters of an underclassman. He’s certainly one to remember.
Dejour Smith, RB, Wilson (CA): A Big Sky Conference target, with Northern Arizona at the top of the list, the 5-9 and 165-pound was not shy on the big stage. He shined in the spotlight.
Faufano Autele, RB, Ottay Ranch (CA): The 5-8 and 250-pound junior is more of a fullback. Nevertheless, he did everything asked of him. No surprise, San Diego State is interested.
Mozes Mooney, WR, The Bishop’s School (CA): With multiple offers already, and the Pac-12 Conference in the mix, the 6-1 and 185-pound junior nearly stole the show. He did, in fact.
Mason Biely, WR, St. Joseph (CA): The 6-3 and 170-pound junior has talked with teams in the Big Sky Conference, specifically speaking Montana. An offer could soon materialize.
William Burton, TE, Granite Hills (CA): With visits to Arizona, Oregon State and Washington under his belt already, the 6-5 and 235-pound junior is heading down the right path.
Colin Myers, DB, Cathedral Catholic (CA): The 6-foot and 165-pound junior is on the radar of Northern Arizona. Perhaps more interesting, Arizona recently entered the picture.
Dre Hankins, DB, Wasco (CA): Right or wrong, the 5-10 and 165-pound junior was a relative unknown on the recruiting landscape in the past. The perception is about to change.
Cam’Ron Chatman, LB, La Mirada (CA): The 5-11 and 225-pound junior missed the workout. Plans are in the work for the Pac-12 Conference target to attend a different session.
Michael Shawcroft, LB, Helix (CA): Young and raw, for the most part at this stage of the game, the 6-2 and 225-pound sophomore did plenty of things well in a difficult setting.
Isaiah Mann, OL, Helix (CA): The 6-1 and 230-pound junior is still growing. If, and when, the spurt is complete, more than a few potential college suitors figure to follow suit.
Dylon Hessenflow, DL, Scripps Ranch (CA): Go ahead and count Northern Arizona and North Dakota as fans of the 6-4 and 235-pound junior, who does his best work from the edge.
Editor’s Note: Those who did well at this workout, in time, could be invited to one of the brand’s All-American Bowls held at NFL stadium and nationally broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks.
The games take place at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium, Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field or San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium.
Moving forward, the Blue-Grey Football Selection Committee will consider a number of different factors before making an all-important decision on invites to the All-American Bowl. Stay tuned.
