Blue-Grey All-American Combine: South Carolina Regional Scouting Report (2017)
Back in his old stomping grounds, similar to so many times in the recent past, NFL veteran Larry Ryans returned home for this weekend’s Blue-Grey All-American Combine (South Carolina Regional).
True to form, all signs point to the Palmetto State native and his one-time professional peers not being the least bit disappointed with the turnout, also the talent in attendance during the workout.
Led by Ryans, the coaching staff, in fact, worked together afterward to compile a small sampling of the many highlights. What follows, is a look at the best of the best, the top prospects on hand.
Bishop Cannon, QB, Batesburg-Leesville (SC): The 6-foot-2 and 189-pound junior was as athletic as they come. Whether it was in the pocket, or outside, he found a way to get the job done.
Logan McFadden, QB, Rock Hill (SC): Boasting not only a big arm, but also accurate, the 6-3 and 175-pound junior was able to make every throw when his number was called.
British Brooks, RB, Ashbrook (NC): First, the 5-10 and 184-pound junior opened eyes during skills testing and then kept everyone’s attention during the one-on-one session.
McKinley Nelson, RB, Monroe (NC): Equipped with what appears to be a college-ready frame, the 5-10 and 190-pound junior delivered memorable plays all over the field.
Chase Walker, RB, Southeast Bulloch (GA): The 5-8 and 197-pound junior did well, along with Desmond Buchanan from Rock Hill (SC) and Lanard James from Woodland (SC).
Tyrese Pressey, WR, Colleton County (SC): Despite his age, the 6-2 and 186-pound sophomore has upside, and at times, played with the poise of an experienced upperclassmen.
Davario Brown, WR, Carolina (SC): The 5-11 and 170-pound junior had a motor that did not stop. With one gear, his foot was on pedal the whole time. He did not take a rep off.
Shaundre Miller, DB, Chapman (SC): On the official roster beforehand, the 5-11 and 160-pound junior was unable to attend. Worth noting, he’s talked with teams in the ACC.
Dawson Williams, DB, Jay M. Robinson (NC): The 5-9 and 165-pound junior plays both sides of the ball and that best explains interest from the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
Ryan Heriot, DB, Fort Mill (SC): Colleges are keeping an eye on the 5-10 and 175-pound junior. Schools might want to do the same with Jaden Koger from Colleton County (SC).
Thomas Hudson, Butler (GA): The 6-foot and 175-pound sophomore held his own in this kind of setting. Another name to remember was Jalen Weston from River Bluff (SC).
Paul Stanley, LB, Marist (GA): On the radar despite missing the workout, the 6-2 and 230-pound junior has visited Duke, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State in the past.
Jordan Swinton, LB, West Florence (GA): The 6-foot and 200-pound sophomore did well, so did Jadan Grant from Walhalla (SC) and Stephon Alexander from West Florence (SC).
Benjamin Ross, OL, Emerald (SC): Young and raw, the 6-4 and 280-pound sophomore has a high ceiling. Keller Wilbanks from East Gaston (NC) deserved an acknowledgement.
Byron Shields, DL, Franklin (NC): The 6-4 and 220-pound junior impressed the powers that be with Tre Moore from Strom Thurmond (SC) and Whoodie Goodwin from Abbeville (SC).
Editor’s Note: Those who did well at this workout, in time, could be invited to one of the brand’s All-American Bowls held at NFL stadium and nationally broadcast on ESPN’s family of networks.
The games take place at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium, Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field or San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium.
Moving forward, the Blue-Grey Football Selection Committee will consider a number of different factors before making an all-important decision on invites to the All-American Bowl. Stay tuned.
