Blue-Grey Regional Combine: Northern Scouting Report (2015)

Tucker Spears was one of many up-and-coming prospects who attended the recent Blue-Grey Regional Combine and did well in the spotlight at South Dakota.

In an attempt to reach just about every corner of the country, South Dakota this past weekend was the latest stop on the nationwide workout circuit for the Blue-Grey Regional Combine.

In retrospect, for the record, the trip up North was worthwhile given the collection of talented recruits in attendance. So, without further delay, here’s a closer look at the best of the best.

John Larson, QB, Braham (MN): The 6-2 and 195-pound junior was the premier signal-caller on the field. Accordingly, Army, Minnesota and Purdue are among the many schools who have reached out to him in the not so distant past. His future appears to be bright.

Hunter Monroe-Miller, QB, Burke (NE): The 6-5 and 200-pound sophomore has emerged as a familiar face, after last week, also doing particularly well at the Blue-Grey Regional Combine inside the home of training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs. With a bit more polishing, he should soon have some college options.

Kory Walsh, RB, Marion (IA): Equipped with a good frame, the 6-1 and 220-pound junior looked the part. And he played the part. South Dakota State and North Dakota State are a couple of the local programs who have expressed interest.

Malik Holmes, RB, South St. Paul (MN): The 5-11 and 225-pound junior is put together and packs a serious punch. That said, opposing linebackers, and defensive backs, for that matter, had difficulty stopping him during the one-on-one session.

Tucker Spears, TE, Avon Old Farms (CT): Named as the Offensive MVP, the 6-5 and 230-pound junior recently re-qualified for the Class of 2016 and has scholarship offers in place from Bucknell, Eastern Michigan and North Dakota State.

Cade Johnson, WR, Redwood Valley (MN): The 6-foot and 175-pound junior opened eyes during skills testing. It was more of the same once the individual drills started to take place. Traivon Fitzpatrick of Highland Park (MN) also did well.

Brian Lapke, LB, Papillion La Vista South (NE): Determined to leave a lasting impression, the 5-10 and 185-pound junior turned out to be successful in achieving his goal. A couple of colleges are keeping an eye on him, most notably Nebraska.

T.J. O’Tool, LB, St. Edmond (IA): The 5-10 and 180-pound junior had a motor that simply didn’t stop. He played in one gear and it was full-speed ahead. The intensity, at several different stages, proved to be contagious with most of his peers.

Stephon Stowers, DB, Centennial (NV): After a long trip from the desert in Las Vegas, the 6-foot and 190-pound junior did not show any signs of rust and thus was named Defensive MVP, along with Cole Schroerdermeier from Roosevelt (SD).

Shawn Hai, DL, Brookings (SD): The 6-4 and 196-pound junior was seemingly without peer down in the trenches. If, and when, he adds mass, we could be talking a prospect who emerges as someone that colleges watch more and more.
