Blue-Grey All-American Combine: Southeast Regional Scouting Report (2016)
And so it begins. Not long ago, the process of scouting the country’s top talent from the Class of 2017, and beyond for that matter, started with the first stop on this year’s nationwide tour for the Blue-Grey All-American Combine (Southeast Regional).
The venue, similar to the recent past, was Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium. And the NFL veteran coaching staff included Mark McMillian, Ken Stills, Jerry Wunsch, Chuck Darby and NFL trainer Rodney Beasley, among others.
The one-time professionals, with unmatched resumes, did their collective best to give back to the game that gave them so much. What follows next is a list of some, but not all, the prospects who left a favorable impression on the powers be.
Spencer Mollnow, QB, Fleming Island (FL): The 6-foot-3 and 196-pound junior looked the part. Not surprisingly, he played the part. In terms of upside, sky’s the limit.
Dylan Rector, QB, Leesburg (FL): The 6-3 and 215-pound sophomore just might be a year away from realizing his potential. Still, the Mid-American Conference is interested.
Christopher Doty, QB, Trinity Catholic (FL): The 6-1 and 185-pound junior did well when given the all-important opportunity. Safe to say, he’s heading in the right direction.
Chauncy Smart, RB, Aunburndale (FL): The 5-9 and 175-pound junior has been in contact with teams in the SEC, ACC and Big 10 Conference. His future is indeed bright.
E’Quan Dorris, RB, South Fort Myers (FL): The 5-9 and 180-pound junior has caught the attention of coaches and scouts from the ACC and Conference USA. And rightfully so.
Jasper Pierre, RB, Mt. Dora Christian Academy (FL): Don’t let his size, or perceived lack thereof, fool you. The 5-6 and 155-pound sophomore can certainly get the job done.
Stephon Fulse, RB, Fort Meade (FL): The 5-10 and 185-pound junior did well during the skills testing. Then, once the one-on-ones started, there was no drop-off in production.
Terrell Periman, WR, Miami Central (FL): Inexperienced on paper, the 5-11 and 180-pound sophomore did not show any signs of being overwhelmed. He’s ahead of his time.
Dominique Linton, WR, Palmetto Ridge (FL): The 6-3 and 173-pound junior is an athlete with a wide array of skills. His true calling, however, could be in the secondary.
Sam Veltman, TE, Indian Rocks Christian (FL): The 6-4 and 230-pound junior was created match-up problems all over the field with a combination of size and speed.
Joshua Campbell, DB, Booker (FL): The 5-10 and 185-pound junior was capable in coverage out on the corner. He got the job as the last line of defense at safety, too.
O’Jhonte Armstrong, DB, Ransom Everglades (FL): The 5-9 and 160-pound junior was intense from start to finish. He never took a play off. Maximum effort here.
Tah’shim Knight, LB, Northside Christian (FL): The 6-foot and 205-pound junior impressed, perhaps more than anyone in attendance. He’s destined to play college ball.
Dakota Trice, LB, Brandon (FL): A familiar face, the 5-11 and 201-pound junior gets better, and better, each time we see him in action. This was no different than the others.
Deon Pate, DL, Fleming Island (FL): The 6-3 and 245-pound junior has an offer from Charlotte. Also, Cincinnati, Purdue and Wake Forest have been in contact with him.
Keandre Jenkins, DL, Auburndale (FL): The 6-3 and 225-pound junior was extremely consistent. Same thing can be said about Rashad Francois from Miami Beach (FL).
Zachary Hauschild, OL, Clearwater (FL): The 6-6 and 280-pound junior was a man among boys, at times. Accordingly, Indiana and North Carolina State are interested.
Teaki Fuller, OL, Booker T. Washington (FL): The 6-4 and 300-pound junior did well, which makes sense given he plays at one of the nation’s top schools on the prep circuit.
Christian Kalish, OL, Palmetto (FL): The 6-4 and 290-pound junior had a motor that didn’t stop all day long. He knew only one speed throughout, that was full throttle.
Kingston Harris, OL, Orlando Christian Prep (FL): The 6-4 and 250-pound junior passed the eye test. Then, he went out and proved to be more than just a big body.
