Blue-Grey All-American Combine: First Coast Regional Scouting Report (2016)
The hype was reasonably high for the recent Blue-Grey All-American Combine (First Coast Regional) despite the workout being the first ever if its kind located at the facilities for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field.
In retrospect, and based on evaluations from the coaching staff of NFL veterans in attendance, no one was disappointed with the overall effort of the recruits on hand. In most cases, expectations were met and then exceeded.
Below is list of some prospects who left a lasting impression. Those interested in learning more about the times and marks during individual skills testing, we have the info (click on this morning link and this afternoon link).
Joseph Brunell, QB, Episcopal (FL): Son of NFL veteran Mark Brunell, the 6-foot-2 and 185-pound junior is well on his way to making a name for himself. That’s not only on the East Coast, but we’re talking about on the national level.
Spencer Mollnow, QB, Fleming Island (FL): The 6-3 and 196-pound junior was at his second workout in the last month, as was Christopher Doty from Trinity Catholic (FL).
Cameron Wakefield, RB, Robert E. Lee (FL): Don’t let his size, or a perceived lack thereof, fool you. The 5-6 and 161-pound junior plays much bigger than his frame.
Antwoine Bryant, RB, Jackson (FL): The 5-10 and 163-pound junior opened up eyes, and once word starts to spread, attention figures to soon follow from colleges.
Marcus Cody, RB Duval Charter (FL): Another recruit who turned heads, the 5-9 and 180-pound junior took the first step toward improving his options at the next level.
Dominick Watt, WR, McArthur (FL): The 6-1 and 197-pound sophomore with ACC interest just might have possessed the most upside out of everyone, despite his class.
Amari Terry, WR, Bolles (FL): Seemingly comfortable with lining up anywhere on the field, the 5-9 and 170-pound junior did a majority of his damage from the slot.
Donell Stubbs, WR, University Christian (FL): The 5-10 and 170-pound junior made the most of his opportunities and he had no shortage of chances on the big stage.
Stavion Stevenson, TE, Cedar Shoals (GA): The 6-3 and 205-pound junior presented a big target in the end end zone. Sun Belt Conference schools have been in contact.
Shanon Reid, LB, Dunbar (FL): An ACC and SEC target, the 6-2 and 200-pound junior is starting to scratch the surface. Offers are right around the corner for him.
Ashton Wilson, LB, Merritt Island (FL): The 6-2 and 220-pound junior typically has played along the line of scrimmage. He might be better suited at the second level.
Chase Lasater, LB, Trinity Christian (FL): Intense and focused, also with a motor that did not stop, the 6-2 and 238-pound junior had one gear, that was full speed ahead.
Randall Haynie, DB, Cardinal Gibbons (FL): The 6-1 and 175-pound proved capable of shutting down one side of the field. A scholarship is in place from Wisconsin.
Darnell Robinson, DB, Oxbridge Academy (FL): With the lines of communication open with ACC and MAC teams, the 5-10 and 170-pound junior is ahead of the game.
Carson Powell, DB, Cardinal Newman (FL): The 6-foot and 190-pound junior understood his role and appeared to flourish as the last line of defense in the secondary.
Brandon Wallace, DB, Hillard (FL): The 6-1 and 160-pound junior was a competitor and never backed down from a challenge. He won many battles, for the record.
Jamal Wakefield, DB, Providence (FL): Brother of Vanderbilt commit Jamauri Wakefield, the 5-10 and 180-pound junior could be heading down an eerily similar path.
Demetrius Harris, OL, Robert E. Lee (FL): The 6-3 and 280-pound junior used not only his frame, but sheer athleticism, to make a name for himself in the afternoon.
Kingston Harris, OL, Orlando Christian Prep (FL): The 6-4 and 250-pound sophomore was a hot topic of conversation among the NFL veterans after things ended.
Ian Newton, DL, Heritage (FL): Strong as anyone around, the 6-2 and 313-pound junior also proved to be quite nimble on his feet. He was far from one-dimensional.
