Blue-Grey All-American Combine: Alabama Regional Scouting Report (2016)
There was no shortage of talent at the recent Blue-Grey All-American Combine in Montgomery (AL), with a good balance of high-profile profile prospects and under-the-radar recruits in attendance.
NFL veterans Larry Ryans and NFL trainer Reggie Young were lead instructors and the consensus was that the pair of sessions at the Cramton Bowl were among the best on this year’s nationwide circuit.
So without further ado, it’s time to take a much closer look at some of the individuals who left a lasting impression on the powers that be, specifically coaches and scouts. A who’s who list now follows.
Hudson Hughes, QB, Pell City (AL): The 6-foot-3 and 180-pound junior opened up eyes in the morning, and by the end of the day, little or nothing changed. He impressed throughout.
Dywaun Watlon, QB, Barbour County (AL): Athletic, the 6-3 and 180-pound junior did well on the move. Still, he could use some work in the pocket. His upside is undeniable, however.
Terence Dunlap, RB, Maplesville (AL): The 5-11 and 170-pound junior nearly stole the show. Suppose that best explains his scholarships from Illinois, Troy and Jacksonville State.
Rodarrius Brooks, RB, Huffman (AL): Middle Tennessee State reached out to the 5-10 and 175-pound junior, and after the effort in this environment, the interest was warranted.
Randy Echols, RB, Tuscaloosa County (AL): The 5-10 and 175-pound junior has been contacted by those in Conference USA. On the right track, other schools could come calling soon.
Tashaad Jones, RB, Lee (AL): With looks from programs in the NCAA Division II ranks, It’s only a matter of time before emerges on the radar of FBS and FCS teams. You heard it here first.
Jace Jordan, RB, Mount Zion (GA): The 5-10 and 185-pound junior created a buzz and kept everyone’s attention. So did Jadon Killings of Ragland (AL) and Christopher Lynch of Pell City (AL).
Jared Wilson, RB, Charles Henderson (AL): An underclassman, the 5-9 and 208-pound sophomore often played with the poise of an experienced varsity veteran, no easy task in his setting.
Nathaniel Watson, WR, Maplesville (AL): The 6-4 and 204-pound sophomore, in time, regardless of the spot on the field, chances are that he develops to a nationally-known name.
Myles Henderson, WR, Daphne (AL): After testing well during skills testing, the 6-foot and 170-pound junior held his own, and then some. Same thing once one-on-ones got started.
Duke Harris, WR, Carver (AL): Somewhat of late entry to the workout, the 5-9 and 160-pound junior turned out to be a welcome addition. He excelled in every facet of the game.
Kionte Taggart, DB, Hillcrest (AL): The 6-1 and 190-pound junior has received feelers from colleges in the Ohio Valley Conference and that could be the start of something big for him.
DeWayne Parker, DB, Gadsden City (AL): With no shortage of skilled counterparts on the other side of the ball, the 5-10 and 160-pound junior did not back down from any challenge.
Khalid Young, LB, Edgewood Academy (AL): The 6-1 and 210-pound sophomore is well on his way to the next level, with offers from Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, among others.
Steven Crowder, LB, Gardendale (AL): A tireless worker who has been contacted by the schools in the MAC had one gear and that was full-speed. Slowing down was not an option.
Zaccheus Woodard, LB, Thomasville (AL): The 6-1 and 215-pound junior with some interest from the SEC established himself right away as one of the elite-level individuals on hand.
Eric Potts, LB, Jefferson Davis (AL): Young and raw, the 6-foot and 230-pound sophomore was able to show several flashes of potential. A year, or two from now, sky’s the limit.
Andrew Freeman, LB, Gardendale (AL): The 5-9 and 220-pound junior was physically put together. Also worth mentioning, the bulk didn’t hamper his mobility. Not in the least bit.
Jonathan Burpo, OL, Baker (AL): The 6-3 and 295-pound junior had a switch that, when it was flipped on, it was not particularly good news for those on the defensive side of the ball.
Cornelius White, OL, Huffman (AL): More than just a big body, the 6-3 and 175-pound junior used his uncanny agility to do seemingly whatever he wanted down in the trenches.
Hugh Pate, DL, Pickens Academy (AL): The 6-2 and 235-pound had the will to compete, a good thing of course. Sooner rather than later, his body catches up to the mental makeup.
Frank Hurst, DL, Baker (FL): Undersized by some standards, at least for the time being, the 6-foot and 215-pound sophomore still has room to grow. Watch out when he does.
