Blue-Grey All-American Combine: Jacksonville Regional Scouting Report (2016)
After successful debut on the nationwide workout circuit in the state not long ago, expectations were reasonably high at this past weekend’s Blue-Grey All-American Combine in Jacksonville (FL).
Truth be told, the encore effort might have been better than the first act considering many of the top prospects from the Southeast were in attendance. The turnout could not have been better.
NFL veterans Eric Curry and Larry Ryans were lead instructors and both one-time professionals made mention of the fact that there was considerable talent. Here’s a look at the best of the best.
Yusuf DeReese, QB, Titusville (FL): The 6-foot-1 and 180-pound junior, with an arm that appeared to improve over the day, was one of the better athletes around. Regardless of position.
Brian Lane, QB, Sebring (FL): Despite being an underclassman, the 6-3 and 190-pound sophomore often times displayed the poise of a varsity veteran in this environment.
Joshua Spencer, QB, Father Lopez (FL): The 6-foot and 175-pound junior took advantage of the many opportunities that were presented to him and thus made an impact.
Kris Maxie, RB, Yulee (FL): Don’t let his size, or perceived lack thereof fool you, the 5-6 and 165-pound plays bigger than his listed height and weight. You can’t measure heart.
Latrevious Mann, WR, Hawthorne (FL): The 5-10 and 170-pound junior did a little bit of everything and most of it well. In terms of consistency, few could match his effort.
Joshua Pickney, WR, Beacon of Hope Christian (FL): Compact and about fast as they come, the 5-8 and 160-pound junior was difficult to stop once he got going vertically.
Aundre Kearney , LB, Jacksonville (FL): A Virginia Tech commit, the 6-2 and 220-pound junior was arguably the premier prospect on the field. No surprise about that.
Chase Lasater, LB, Trinity Christian (FL): A Michigan commit, the 6-2 and 238-pound junior did nothing to tarnish his growing reputation. His stock continues to rise.
Forest Potts, OL, Auburndale (FL): The 6-4 and 290-pound junior impressed the powers that be with his strength and surprisingly agility, especially with that kind of frame.
Jacob McLeod, OL, South Effingham (GA): Largely untested, the 6-3 and 310-pound sophomore did not back down from anyone, or anything. He accepted each challenge.
Sholophious McCoy, DL, Yonge (FL): Still young, and raw, the 6-3 and 268-pound sophomore opened up some eyes in this setting. Safe to say, in this case, his ceiling is high.
Thomas Kelly, DL, Suncoast (FL): The 6-1 and 215-pound junior caused problems off the edge, and with added bulk, could be more disruptive. Or, linebacker might be a fit.
