Blue-Grey Regional Combine: South Carolina Scouting Report (2015)

Virginia Tech commit Samuel Denmark (far right) was one of the more high-profile prospects at the recent Blue-Grey Regional Combine in South Carolina.

It’s no secret, when it comes to football in the South, there is plenty of talent to be found. After one of many recent stops in that part of the country, we can once again vouch for that fact.

NFL veteran Larry Ryans was recently back in his old stomping grounds, for that matter, and was joined by one-time professional peer Leomont Evans. Together, the tandem instructed recruits.

This past weekend, for example, the Blue-Grey Regional Combine took place in South Carolina and several recruits did well in the environment. Here’s an inside look at the best of the best.

Rick Turner, QB, Lake City (SC): The 5-foot-11 and 193-pound junior did take advantage of his opportunities. He opened up eyes, and accordingly, Missouri and South Carolina are interested.

Rogan Wells, QB, Fort Mill (SC): The first thing that jumped out to members of our staff was the frame of the 6-3 and 185-pound junior. Once he started to sling the ball around, his stock improved.

Martavius Smith, RB, Estill (SC): The 5-10 and 175-pound junior proved to be one of the top prospects at his spot on the field. Also worth mentioning, he gave opponents problems from start to finish.

Samuel Denmark, WR, Hanahan (SC): Expected to be one of the marquee names in attendance, the 6-foot and 175-pound junior who’s committed to Virginia Tech certainly lived up to the advanced hype.

Jacquez Brown, WR, Lake Marion (SC): The 6-foot and 180-pound junior appeared to be comfortable with every test that was presented to him. He passed each one with flying colors, for the record.

Vada King, LB, Smiths Station (AL): A well-known national name, the 6-1 and 230-pound junior did not tarnish his growing reputation. With offers already, Auburn and Tennessee also contacted him.

Trey Mason, LB, West Laurens (GA): The 5-11 and 200-pound junior could have easily got lost in the shuffle with the talent surrounding him. However, to his credit, the scenario never materialized.

Landon Holden, LB, Chapman (SC): With a motor that did not stop, the 6-1 and 208-pound junior was able to leave a lasting impression. Georgia Tech and North Carolina are a couple potential suitors.

Daniel Pruett, DB, Chapman (SC): The 5-11 and 170-pound junior held his own, and then some, during one-on-ones. Suppose that best explains why Clemson and South Carolina have reached out to him.

Kobie Dickerson, DB, Stratford (SC): An underclassman, the 5-11 and 160-pound sophomore often played with the poise of a varsity veteran. Vanderbilt is one of a handful of programs on his bandwagon.
